HOME SCHOOL LEARNING

Why BTRWARE?

Children are the world’s most valuable resource. It is the adult’s responsibility to realize this premise, and to ensure that “all” children have a safe and nurturing environment to grow and develop to their fullest potential. BTRware can help by developing appropriate home lesson plans and explain to you the parent what is being developed as you support and guide your child through teaching at home. The lesson plans focus on national curriculum standards

With over fifty years in the field of education we at BTRWARE feel that our methodology is better than any other. The most common questions parents have asked center around materials and how to support their child in using these resources. As parents you are the experts in your child’s needs. Your child is growing and developing very quickly. There is a better way to support and teach your child today. BTRware will give you the necessary support.

If you are choosing to home school your child please remember the importance of hands on learning for young children and be prepared to readdress topics many times. This is exactly what a typical primary grade teacher, (grades 1, 2, & 3), will do throughout the course of a school year. As a primary class develops the teacher simply makes the materials more involved or sophisticated while working towards student independence.

Young children need time to explore and play as part of their development. We as adults look on the play or exploration of children with envy, because of our usual rushed and hectic lives. We forget that this very engagement in play and discovery is exactly what a young child is suppose to be doing. Discovery and play is their “work”. To do this work well we need to give children three essential elements, good tools, support and guidance, and a designated workspace.

Just as we adults are more successful in doing our jobs more effectively with good tools of our trade so will children have a richer exploration experience with good manipulatives and toys. That being said, in today’s world many parents think this means expensive toys and technology. On the contrary, some of the best math manipulatives cost nothing.

Remember that your young child is moving through various stages of mental development. These stages need to be nurtured and that means lots of physical and mental activity. Noted childhood researchers Eric Erikson, (emphasized human growth throughout one’s life span), and Jean Piaget, (emphasized four distinct developmental phases of child development, sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational) while looking at two varied views of development both concluded that children thrive and grow with attention and guidance.

When choosing to home school, plan a good workspace that your child will identify as his or her school sight. If you have a den try to organize a learn space that offers storage space for materials and for older students a place to sit and complete assignments. This is important because it emphasizes to the child the importance of organization and time management.

Now, let’s start discussing some great exploration manipulatives that will support your child’s learning.

Free exploration of common materials from your child’s world allows you the teacher to begin where your child is in his or her world. Materials that are familiar to the child will stimulate their senses as well as give a feeling of self-confidence in applying these manipulatives in mathematical concepts.
